11 tips for drawing flawless eyeliner arrows

Without doubt, eye makeup is one of the most powerful ’weapons’ in a woman’s beauty arsenal. When applied correctly, it can do wonders for your image by giving your gaze newfound charm and expressiveness.
Today, Bright Side lets you in on the secrets of using makeup to highlight the natural beauty of your eyes!

Dotted lines
To make your arrows look perfect, draw them as dotted lines first. Once you feel satisfied with the outline, connect the dots carefully.

Classic arrows
Classic arrows add volume to your eyelashes and make your eyes look more expressive. If you feel unsure of being able to draw a straight arrow right away, begin by outlining it with a few brush strokes. Then join those separate lines into one.

Multicolored arrows
Once you get the hang of drawing classic arrows, you might want to have a go at something more complicated. For instance, why not draw arrows that comprise of several multicolored lines?

Double arrows
Draw a line over your upper eyelid. Then draw another line under your lower one. Ensure that the outer ends of the lines don’t intersect by leaving some room between them. You can fill this space with mother-of-pearl shadow.

Intersecting eyeliner
When choosing this unusual makeup approach, it is important to make the arrow point upwards.

Light-colored arrows
If you feel that your eyes look too small and you want to do something about it, our advice is to start using lighter colored eyeliners. Following this simple makeup rule is guaranteed to make your eyes appear visibly bigger. The same goes for underlining the lower eyelid — you should only do it with a white or flesh-colored pencil.

Combating the close-set eyes effect
Eyeliners can be of help if you feel your eyes look too narrowly set. The arrows may be any length you want, just don’t forget to make them begin at the middle of the eye! This easy trick should create an optical illusion that’ll make your eyes appear further apart.

Making your eyes look less wide-set
If you’re faced with the opposite kind of problem (your eyes are set too widely apart), make sure that your arrows begin either at the inner corner of the eye or even right at the bridge of your nose. This will help to ’bring’ your eyes closer together.

Smoky eyes
A perfect option for an alluring evening makeup.

Getting ready for a party
A social occasion such as a festive get-together or a party calls for something extraordinary. Why not try a more colorful makeup solution?!

Time to experiment
Don’t hesitate to try out new ideas: experiment with different arrow shapes, use different colors. You can even consider adding decorative patterns or drawings!

A few additional notes:
1. Since perfectly drawn arrows are certain to draw everyone’s attention to your eyes, make sure that your eyebrows are in well-kept condition.

2. Black arrows are well suited for evening makeup. As for creating your daytime image, we recommend using brown, beige, blue, or dark green.

3. It is best to start drawing arrows after you’ve applied eye shadows. If you prefer not to use shadows, apply some transparent powder instead. This will smooth out the eyelid surface and allow you to draw more sharply defined arrows.

4. Don’t close your eyes while drawing the arrows. Keep looking straight in front of you, making sure that you can see the whole of your face in the mirror.

5. While drawing the arrows, always prop your drawing hand’s elbow on a hard surface. This will help to make your arrows neat and level.

6. Your arrows should always follow the outline of your eyelashes.

7. Don’t rely on your pencil only. Make your arrows last by enhancing them with eyeliner and shadows.

8. The tips of the arrows should always be pointing upwards.

Everyday Natural Makeup Tutorials

The natural makeup look is perfect for your simple, everyday wear, and with summer here, it is definitely a trick you want to have up your sleeve!

The natural makeup tutorials below will show you how to do makeup like the pros while looking effortless.

Natural Makeup | Golden Glow
If you are seeking that subtle glow, this natural makeup look is for you.

1. After cleansing, moisturizing and prepping the skin apply Nars Sheer Glow Foundation.
2. Apply a mineral based concealer under the eyes and cover any areas of redness.
3. Before applying a light-weight setting powder to the t-zone only, use your finger to dab a touch of Mac Pink Rebel Skin Finish (2) over high planes of the face such as the bridge of the nose, top of the cheekbones and inner eye area.
4. Lightly Buff on Mac Cream Blusher in Ladyblush over the cheekbones.
5. Define your eyebrows softly with a powder brow product like the HD Brow Palette in ‘Bombshell’
6. Prep the lid with Mac Paint in Bare Canvas (5) and follow with a sweep of Mac Honesty eyeshadow (6) blended into the crease of the eye.
7. A very defining mascara was used – something with a smaller and thinner wand such as Max Factor’s Masterpiece Mascara would recreate the effect perfectly. But notice the ends. Individual false lashes were definitely used to create a soft but pretty lift in the outer corners.
8. Lips are kept really soft – the look is almost lip tone like. Try Laura Mercier’s Lip Tint in Shy Girl (8) for a barely there natural finish.

How to Do Makeup Like Lauren Conrad
If there is anyone who rocks the natural makeup look, it is fashionista Lauren Conrad.

1. Start by applying a good and highly-recommended primer, like Laura Mercier’s Hydrating Primer, to a clean face.
2. Next, apply Becca’s Luminous Skin Colour Foundation in the areas that need more even skin tone.
3. Once you have your base, carefully apply concealer in the areas where you need to cover redness and blemishes.
4. Use Ben Nye‘s colorless powder to set your base, which gives you a lovely and even skin tone.
5. A matt bronzer in a warm tone will give you Lauren’s natural-looking sun-kissed and glowing complexion. Apply this to your forehead, cheeks and chin.
6. Apply Laura Mercier’s Chambord very lightly across the lid and blend in the crease to make it soft, then take a small amount of your bronzer and apply to the crease of the eye to balance.
7. Use a gel eyeliner from Maybelline in black, and apply using a flat liner brush.
8. Finally, to get Lauren’s full and beautifully shimmering lips apply Becca’s Laelia in Peach Nude!

Everyday Makeup | Natural Lashes

1. Build thickness at the root by smudging gel or cream eyeliner as close to the lash line as possible.
2. Curl and separate. A few key pumps of the eyelash curler will do wonders for lashes, with or without mascara. After crimping, comb through eyelashes to separate and fan out your fringe.
3. Dust loose shadow on eyelashes for the final bit of mascara-free fullness. The powder will grab on to the eyelashes creating natural volume.

Step 1. Apply Primer
Let’s start with a primer around the eyes. The primer Mariah uses is Benefit Lemon Aid Eyelid Primer.

Step 2. Apply Foundation
Take your favorite lightweight foundation and dot it on the areas that need the most coverage. Blend it out.

Step 3. Concealer
Apply concealer under the eye, around the nose and on any blemishes. Be sure to blend, blend, blend.

Step 4. Brightening Powder
Then, take Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder and apply it under the eyes to give them an awake, fresh appearance. You don’t have to use Laura Mercier, but opt for a matte brightening powder, rather than one with shimmer. You don’t want to look like a raccoon wearing an eye mask made of glitter.

Step 5. Eyeshadow
Choose a warm gray shadow as your base color. Apply it on the outer crease of the lid.

Tip: If the wing is a little messy, use an angled brush with foundation to clean up any rough edges.

Step 7. Lower Lashes
Apply a complimentary shade to the initial one you chose (if following the tutorial, opt for a pale, cream shade with a hint of shimmer) and apply the color to the inner corner of your eye.

HOW TO MAKE SPECIAL EFFECTS WITH EYELINER

You can create several effects using eyeliner and change the way your eyes look. You will see here the most common and beautiful looking effects and the good thing is you can try them all on you and see what suits best. Makeup is the most awesome tool for women who love to make small changes and correct their imperfections without using surgery, so let’s see what you can try out.

     Special eyeliner effects:
     1. Closer look – it will make your eyes look closer one to another. Apply a line on the top lash line and thicken the inner corner for more definition.
     2. Rounder look – will make your eyes be rounder and this goes great for small eyes, apply it to the top and bottom of the lash line and thicken only at the outer corners.
     3. Oval look – perfect if you have small and round eyes and you want to make them look more oval. Apply eyeliner on the upper lash line and thicken in the middle.
     4. Larger look – will make your eyes look bigger and lighter. Apply eyeliner to the top lash line and waterline with a lighter color.
     5. Farther look – is great when your eyes are too close and you want to create the effect that they are farther. Apply eyeliner on the upper lash line and thicken it at the outer corner of the eye.
     6. Dramatic look – is perfect to give depth to the eyes and make them look more playful.
