Why You Should Switch to a Water-Based Foundation This Summer

Your skin = thirstay.

Why You Should Switch to a Water-Based Foundation This Summer

When water-based foundations first hit the market after World War II, women went crazy for the stuff as they provided a less cakey, more natural-looking alternative to the oil-based or powder options of the decades prior. Equal parts weightless and buildable, these formulas are just as beloved to this day and keep getting better, especially if you're oil prone. From the drugstore hero to the most luxurious formulas in the game, ward off a shiny forehead this summer with these H20-happy foundations.

1. TOO FACED BORN THIS WAY FOUNDATION
The brand's most natural-looking foundation, this sheer, easy-to-blend cream will give you medium to full coverage depending on how you layer it. Oil-free and formulated with coconut water and hyaluronic acid to keep your skin moisturized, just be wary that it's not too too dewy or hydrating if you have suuuper oily skin.
Too Faced Born This Way Absolutely Perfection Foundation, £48.22amazon.co.uk

2. MAC STUDIO WATERWEIGHT SPF 30 FOUNDATION
Finding that happy medium between providing soft, yet solid coverage without drying out the skin, this water-like, gel-serum foundation works on ALL skin types and provides SPF 30 protection. Plus, it comes in a cool dropper bottle.
MAC Studio Waterweight SPF 30 Foundation, £29.99amazon.co.uk

3. KOH GEN DO AQUA FOUNDATION SPF 15
This formula is expensive, but not for nothing as it really does deliver on its "post-facial glow" promise. Made with mineral from the deep waters of Bretagne (fancy!), it brightens the skin by reflecting light to eradicate facial shadows, resulting in a glowy soft focus finish.
Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation SPF 15

4. BURBERRY FRESH FLOW LUMINOUS FLUID BASE
Burberry's illuminating pearlescent primer can be worn on its own or mixed with foundation to create a dewy glow that never reads too shiny or sparkly. If you're looking to add radiance to a dull winterized complexion before summer, this is your stuff.
Burberry Fresh Flow Luminous Fluid Base
5. COVER FX NATURAL FINISH OIL-FREE FOUNDATION
In more than 20 shades, you're bound to find your perfect match with this super-blendable, long-wearing formula. It's also v concentrated, so a little bit of product goes a long way, ensuring you get all the bank for you buck.
Cover FX Natural Finish Oil Free Foundation, £59.99 amazon.co.uk

6. MAKE UP FOR EVER FACE & BODY LIQUID MAKEUP FOUNDATION
A beauty editor favorite, if you're in the market for au naturale day-to-day coverage, this is your stuff. It has that "your skin, but better" look down to a science with a water-based gel formula that blurs away imperfections while delivering sheer to medium matte coverage.
Make Up For Ever Face and Body Liquid Makeup Foundation, £46.76amazon.co.uk

7. L'ORÉAL PARIS TRUE MATCH SUPER-BLENDABLE MAKEUP
This drugstore steal is notorious for being *amazing* for normal to very oily skin. Its fluid, silk-like texture goes on smoothly and will let your natural complexion show through while still diffusing uneven skin tone, blemishes, and T-zone shine. It also comes complete with SPF 17.

Everyday Natural Makeup Tutorials

The natural makeup look is perfect for your simple, everyday wear, and with summer here, it is definitely a trick you want to have up your sleeve!

The natural makeup tutorials below will show you how to do makeup like the pros while looking effortless.

Natural Makeup | Golden Glow
If you are seeking that subtle glow, this natural makeup look is for you.

1. After cleansing, moisturizing and prepping the skin apply Nars Sheer Glow Foundation.
2. Apply a mineral based concealer under the eyes and cover any areas of redness.
3. Before applying a light-weight setting powder to the t-zone only, use your finger to dab a touch of Mac Pink Rebel Skin Finish (2) over high planes of the face such as the bridge of the nose, top of the cheekbones and inner eye area.
4. Lightly Buff on Mac Cream Blusher in Ladyblush over the cheekbones.
5. Define your eyebrows softly with a powder brow product like the HD Brow Palette in ‘Bombshell’
6. Prep the lid with Mac Paint in Bare Canvas (5) and follow with a sweep of Mac Honesty eyeshadow (6) blended into the crease of the eye.
7. A very defining mascara was used – something with a smaller and thinner wand such as Max Factor’s Masterpiece Mascara would recreate the effect perfectly. But notice the ends. Individual false lashes were definitely used to create a soft but pretty lift in the outer corners.
8. Lips are kept really soft – the look is almost lip tone like. Try Laura Mercier’s Lip Tint in Shy Girl (8) for a barely there natural finish.

How to Do Makeup Like Lauren Conrad
If there is anyone who rocks the natural makeup look, it is fashionista Lauren Conrad.

1. Start by applying a good and highly-recommended primer, like Laura Mercier’s Hydrating Primer, to a clean face.
2. Next, apply Becca’s Luminous Skin Colour Foundation in the areas that need more even skin tone.
3. Once you have your base, carefully apply concealer in the areas where you need to cover redness and blemishes.
4. Use Ben Nye‘s colorless powder to set your base, which gives you a lovely and even skin tone.
5. A matt bronzer in a warm tone will give you Lauren’s natural-looking sun-kissed and glowing complexion. Apply this to your forehead, cheeks and chin.
6. Apply Laura Mercier’s Chambord very lightly across the lid and blend in the crease to make it soft, then take a small amount of your bronzer and apply to the crease of the eye to balance.
7. Use a gel eyeliner from Maybelline in black, and apply using a flat liner brush.
8. Finally, to get Lauren’s full and beautifully shimmering lips apply Becca’s Laelia in Peach Nude!

Everyday Makeup | Natural Lashes

1. Build thickness at the root by smudging gel or cream eyeliner as close to the lash line as possible.
2. Curl and separate. A few key pumps of the eyelash curler will do wonders for lashes, with or without mascara. After crimping, comb through eyelashes to separate and fan out your fringe.
3. Dust loose shadow on eyelashes for the final bit of mascara-free fullness. The powder will grab on to the eyelashes creating natural volume.

Everyday Look: 10-Minute Drugstore Makeup Tutorial

This natural everyday look takes 10 minutes and features your favorite drugstore makeup. Keep on reading to get the step-by-step guide to this fresh look!
10-Minute Drugstore Makeup Tutorial

Okay, yes, us choosing this tutorial was because it was another excuse to stare at Eman’s ridiculously gorgeous face and hear her sweet voice, but this look also happens to be absolutely beautiful and inexpensive (two words we love hearing in the same sentence).

Using only drugstore products, Eman creates a rosy, youthful look that features flushed cheeks, a pink lip and groomed brows. This makeup is perfect for days when you need to be somewhere in a flash, are looking for a look that will take years off your face or don’t have the energy to apply a full face of makeup.

Scroll down for the step by step guide.

Step 1
Let’s start with priming our skin. The beautiful and talented Eman uses Nyx Cosmetics Soft Focus Primer.
Nyx’s primer is said to drastically minimize the appearance of pores. image via EMAN
Work primer over every inch of your face. image via EMAN

Step 2
After priming, move on to the foundation. The drugstore foundation used here is Maybelline Soft Matte Dream Velvet Hydrating Foundation in Medium Beige.

When it comes to applying foundation, I like to do it with a good ol’ foundation brush, but feel free to use a Beauty Blender, your fingers, or whatever tool you feel most comfortable working in.
This foundation is supposed to be velvety and hydrating, making it perfect for dry skin. image via EMAN

Step 3
Now that your foundation is ready to go, let’s apply concealer. The concealer used in this tutorial is L’Oreal Magic Lumi Highlighter/Concealer.

Apply a generous amount under your eyes, down the bridge of your nose and under your cheekbones.

Don’t forget to blend!
Blend, blend, blend, girl! image via EMAN

Step 4
It’s on to the eyebrows with Nyx Sculpt & Highlight Brow Contour pencil. Fill in your brows as you normally would.
This brow pencil is smooth to apply and will keep those brows in place. image via EMAN

Step 5
Once those brows are on fleek, grab your Wet N’ Wild Ticket to Brazil bronzer and lightly apply it along your cheekbones.
Now it’s time to warm up the face with some bronzer. image via EMAN
Lightly apply it on the apples of the cheeks. image via EMAN

Step 6
With the other side of your Nyx Brow Sculpt pencil, take the highlighter and apply it on the inner corner of the eyes and under the brows’ arch.

Step 7
With the same bronzer you used on your face, apply it in your eye’s crease to give your eyes shape and definition.

Step 8
Let’s move on to the cheeks. The blush used in this tutorial is Neutrogena Cheek Blusher in Vibrant 20. Lightly dust the apples of the cheeks for a flush of color.
This blush will give you a natural flush. image via EMAN

Step 9
After blush, curl the lashes and apply Maybelline Colossal Mascara.

Pro Tip: a trick to applying falsies is cutting the strip in half and apply the outer half first and then the inner half. Both halves will overlap, but the finished result will look natural. Even when you look down.
Curl those lashes and apply falsies, if you’d like. image via EMAN

Step 10
Apply mascara on the bottom lashes.
Carefully add mascara on the bottom lashes to even out the eyes. image via EMAN

Step 11
Line the lips with L’Oreal Lip Liner in Timeless Coral.
Timeless Coral is a great nude lip liner. image via EMAN

Step 12
Go over it with Maybelline Color Sensational Vivid Matte Liquid in Nude Flush. If you’d like, you can go over your lipstick with L’Oreal Pro Gloss in Coral Sands.

Edgy Pastel Ombre Makeup Tutorial For Spring 2016

Looking for a cool look to wear this spring? Then this pastel ombre makeup tutorial is for you!

     Edgy Pastel Ombre Makeup Tutorial

Spring is all about color, color and more color, so what better way to show our spring spirit than by wearing a look that features 3 beautiful, vibrant colors? This edgy ombre makeup tutorial is for daring beauty junkies only, so keep on scrolling if you dare!

Step 1. Apply Primer
Let’s start with a primer around the eyes. The primer Mariah uses is Benefit Lemon Aid Eyelid Primer.
Prime your eyes with your favorite primer. Image via Mariah Leonard

Step 2. Apply Foundation
Take your favorite lightweight foundation and dot it on the areas that need the most coverage. Blend it out.
Apply foundation to even out your skin tone. Image via Mariah Leonard

Step 3. Concealer
Apply concealer under the eye, around the nose and on any blemishes. Be sure to blend, blend, blend.
Apply concealer underneath the eyes. Image via Mariah Leonard

Step 4. Brightening Powder
Then, take Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder and apply it under the eyes to give them an awake, fresh appearance. You don’t have to use Laura Mercier, but opt for a matte brightening powder, rather than one with shimmer. You don’t want to look like a raccoon wearing an eye mask made of glitter.
Brighten the eyes with powder to make them look awake. Image via Mariah Leonard

Step 5. Eyeshadow
Choose a warm gray shadow as your base color. Apply it on the outer crease of the lid.
Apply your eyeshadow base. Image via Mariah Leonard

Take a darker shade of gray and apply that on the outer corner of the lid’s crease.
Use a darker shade of gray for intensity. Image via Mariah Leonard

Choose a bright lilac color for the inner corner of the lid and blend to the outer corner of the eyelid (the darker gray shade).
Apply your first bright eyeshadow. Image via Mariah Leonard

Step 6. Eyeliner
     Create a thin, winged eyeliner.
Time to practice your winged eyeliner skills! Image via Mariah Leonard

Tip: If the wing is a little messy, use an angled brush with foundation to clean up any rough edges.

Step 7. Lower Lashes
Apply a complimentary shade to the initial one you chose (if following the tutorial, opt for a pale, cream shade with a hint of shimmer) and apply the color to the inner corner of your eye.
Add that pop of shimmer to brighten up the eyes. Image via Mariah Leonard

In the middle of the lash line, apply a bold mint-green shade for a pop of intensity.
Start creating your ombre with a mint eye pencil. Image via Mariah Leonard

For the ombre effect, apply a bright, sky blue shadow to the outer corner of the lower lash line.
Finish your ombre with a pop of blue. Image via Mariah Leonard

Step 8. Apply Mascara
Apply mascara on both your top and bottom lashes; if using falsies, now’s the time to apply them.

Step 9. Contour
Contour below the cheekbones and blend it upward. Contour around the edges of the forehead to add warmth to the face.
Get those cheekbones, girl! Image via Mariah Leonard

Step 10. Illuminate
Apply highlighter across the cheekbones, under your eyebrow’s arch, the tip of your nose, and on your cupid’s bow.
Now for my favorite part: highlighting! Image via Mariah Leonard

Step 11. Apply Blush
Apply a soft, pink blush on the apples of your cheeks.
Apply blush for a rosy glow. Image via Mariah Leonard

Step 12. Lips
Trace and fill in your lips with a pinkish brown lip pencil. For lipstick, opt for a coral shade. The lip products used in this tutorial are Anastasia Beverly Hills Neon Coral Liquid Lipstick and Ofra Rio Liquid Lipstick.
Line those full lips, ladies. Image via Mariah Leonard

Now you’re ready for spring.
